Summer Outing 2010

Summer Outing

The Club broke new ground when, on June 29th, fifty three members set off on their first three day holiday.

Day one took us through Bandon, Bantry and Kenmare to our base at the Brehon Hotel in Killarney. After dinner many enjoyed the Cabaret at the adjoining Gleneagle.

Day two was a tour of the Ring of Kerry with various comfort stops, followed by shopping at the Killarney Outlet Centre.

Some Revellers organised their own Seisiún and sange late into the night.

On Day three the group travbelloed to Tralee, on to Dingle, Inch Strand and stopped off for dinner at the Castle Hotel in Macroom.

The atmosphere for the three days was very relaxed and the bus journeys seemed brief as the singing of Mary Power, Nora Riordan and many others, along with the music suplied by Cormac Lynch, helped us on our way.

The committee thank those who travelled, for their co-operation at all times, our driver Denis Hennessy for his patience, and the H.S.E and SECAD who gave us some sponsorship.

Here’s to next year!!

Spring 2010 activities

Here’s a few photos of some events that took place over the Autumn / Spring 09/10 season.

There was a very successful “Men’s Health & Wellbeing” course in Autumn 09.

Also, the Monday club had a very successful 4th Birthday. As you can see from the photo across, plenty of people turned out for the day.

Well done to all those involved in the Monday Club!

Report on 2009

Report on Monday Club Activities

Before our Summer Recess, close on fifty people had a delightful day out to Cahir, Swiss Cottage, The Vee, Ballyin Gardens near Lismore and finished with Dinner and Dancing at Lismore Hotel, where Peter Lee provided the music.

Back to business in September. Our first meeting included movement to music where everybody relaxed and our local musicians and singers blended in with the dance co-ordinators.

Forty seven people attended the October meeting where we were treated to a Cookery Demonstration by Mairéad Corcoran. The ladies were enthralled – the men very happy to sample the produce. This was followed by an intense session of Bingo.

Our November 2nd programme has a double bill. Jill Bell will talk about Healthy Eating and health foods followed by a Floral Demonstration by Catherine Kenneally – Catherine will use a Christmas theme.

December 7th is fixed for our Christmas Dinner and cabaret at the Old Thatch. Music is by Pat & Ger, places are limited, so get names down at the Monday Club on November 2nd.

Classes currently in session are Crafts with Catherine Kenneally and Men’s Health and Wellbeing with Albert McCarthy. Attendance at both is very satisfactory.

Our Autumn Trip, sponsored by SECAD and assisted by the proceeds of the local Charity Horse/Pony ride, was to the Cork Opera House on Sunday October 4th, where Gina, Dale Haze and the Champions had some of the Killeagh/Inch patrons literally dancing in the aisles.

Meanwhile between twelve and fifteen people travel each Friday to Youghal courtesy of the Rural Transport Programme. The group travelled to a Public Meeting in Midleton recently to express their horror at proposed snipping of the programme. Hopefully our letters to public representatives will help persuade the government not to cut the scheme.

The Monday Club Committee are: Kathleen Rohan; Mary Collins; Micheál Lee; Helen Kennedy; Eileen Meade; Siobhán Foley; Ann Gleeson; Mary Landers and Finbarr Motherway. The committee feels very strongly that many benefits accrue to those who participate in our activities and ensure everybody that all are welcome to join us.
